Brandon Township Annual Meeting Minutes
March 13, 2018
Call to Order: Brandon Township Clerk Mike Cleary called the annual meeting to order at 7:00 pm with 10 people in attendance. The pledge of allegiance was recited by all and introductions were made. Adrian Ledermann was nominated and elected to moderate the meeting and took over as chair. The agenda was approved on a motion by Dennis Lund, seconded by Kathy Zimmerman. Motion carried.
Minutes: Reading of the minutes of the March, 2017 annual meeting was waved and the minutes approved on a motion by Mike Cleary and seconded by Paul Roers. Motion carried.
A. Nicole Fernholz from the Alexandria Area Economic Development Commission (AAEDC) handed out the 2017 annual report and the 2019 donation request of $2,500 from Brandon Township. 2018 efforts will focus primarily on marketing the area to attract quality workers and businesses. The donation request of $2,500 was approved on a motion by Dennis Lund with a second by Gene Fynboh. Motion carried.
B. Jared Buchholz from the Brandon Fire Department presented the 2019 budget and request for funding of $28,930.96 from Brandon Township. In 2017, the department made 110 runs down which were primarily medically related. The request for funding in the amount of $28,930.96 was approved on a motion by John Ledermann with a second by Gene Fynboh. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report: Kathy Zimmerman presented the Treasurers Report for 2017. Highlights were: 2017 Revenue - $232,203 plus $81,600 assessments received for paving project. 2017 Expenses: Payroll including road maintenance, administrative and elections -$33,685; Other including fire protection, road materials and equipment - $132,425. Capital expenditures - $401,976. Ending cash balance as of December 31, 2017 was $368,614 which was an increase of $37,293 for the year. The report was approved on a motion by Dennis Lund and seconded by Adrian Lederman. Motion carried.
2019 Budget and Levy: Mike Cleary present the Brandon Township budget and levy request for 2019. The budget calls for a levy of $40,000 for the General Fund, $110,000 for the Road & Bridge Fund, $29,000 for the First Responders Fund, $30,000 for the Tar Road Reserve and $10,000 for the Equipment Replacement Reserve for a total of $219,000. This is an increase of $16,000 over the 2018 levy.
Road Report: Kerby Lund presented the 2017 road report detailing the maintenance and improvements undertaken during the past year. See the Road Report attached to these minutes for more details.
Old Business: There was no old business to discuss.
A. Discussion was held regarding a letter request from Someplace Safe for a donation to support their program. The supervisors were directed to contact this organization for more details before considering the request further.
A. The budget and levy of $219,000 for 2019 was approved on a motion by Dennis Lund with a second by Kathy Zimmerman. Motion carried.
B. A motion was made by Dennis Lund with a second by Paul Roers to set the time, date and place of the 2019 Annual Meeting for 7:00 pm on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at the Brandon Community Center. Motion carried.
Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 7:56 pm on a motion by John Lederman and a second by Kathy Zimmerman. Motion carried.
