Brandon Township Meeting Minutes – July 16, 2007 

The regular monthly meeting of the Brandon Township Board was held on Monday, July 16, 2007, at the Brandon Community Center with Gaylin Croonquist, Don Buse, Paul Lauthen, Diane Smith and Adrian Ledermann present.

 

The meeting was called to order by the chair, Gaylin Croonquist at 8 p.m.  The pledge of allegiance was recited.

 

Clerks Report:  The minutes of the June 18th meeting were addressed.   The minutes were approved as read with a motion by Lauthen, seconded by Buse, and carried.

 

Treasurer’s Report:  Beginning balance on June 1, 2007, was $22,089.46.  Interest from Revenue on account at Bremer was $ 5.75.  Other income was $ 50.00.  Orders issued totaling $ 16,316.65, for a total ending balance of $ 5,828.56.  Investments reported included Tar & Road Fund received $ 231.14 in interest to total $ 64,937.86; 12 month CD renewed for one year totals $ 54,104.63; and 18 month CD renewed for one year totals $ 154,489.84. Brandon Township received the first portion of property taxes totaling $ 35,294.32 and $ 1,602.70 in chloride reimbursement during July bringing the present checking account to $ 42,725.58 as of July 16.   Motion made by Buse, seconded by Lauthen, to approve report; carried.

 Public Comment:  No visitors were present. Old Business:

a.  Graveling was not quite complete  Greenquist Rd needs gravel.

b. Chloride bills are being paid.   Ledermann checked with county treasurer on possible billing to resident tax statements.  Can be done rather easily, but as long as residents are willing to collect (e.g. Big Chip Road), leave as is or at least until annual meeting.

c.  Blacktopping of roads when township takeover is being considered may be required by township.   Various townships have different policies. No further action taken.

d. Buse gave update on sewer.  CRLSD has set aside up to $4,000 to study possibilities of  Brandon city, Garfield city and Brandon Township merging.  Miltona area is waiting for permit, Lobster Lake area is on hold until federal loan bill is passed.

e.  Smith to attend Fergus Falls short course.

f.  Carr’s Tree Service is finished with spraying.

 New Business:

a.  Four land use permits were reviewed.

b.  Blackie has installed culvert in East Tigen Road.

c.  Ledermann is to call Ziegler Cat, Kibble Equipment and Farm Plan to correct Brandon Township billing address.   Also Kibble will be asked about bill not belonging to Brandon.

   

Claims:   Claims were presented and viewed by the board. Claims included:  Farm Plan - $ 85.07 for parts; Bob’s Adium - $16.80 for mower fuel; Pro Ag Farmers Co-op - $686.66 for oil; Carr’s Tree Service - $ 3,456.99 for ditch spraying; Otter Tail Power - $39.74 for shop electricity; Hilltop Lumber - $ 465.67 for culvert; Brandon Fire Department - $ 3,000 for floating pump; Pera - $ 215.32 for 2nd quarter; IRS - $ 671.53 for 2nd quarter fica; Gerald Buse - $ 250.00 for Edgefield upkeep; Okerlund Gravel - $3,744.00 for gravel.  

 

Claims and wages were order to be paid, with the exception of the Farm Plan bill which does not belong to Brandon Township,  with a motion by Lauthen, seconded by Buse and carried.
