Brandon Township Monthly Meeting Minutes

July 20, 2015


The July monthly meeting was held on July 20, 2015 at the Brandon Community Center with Gene Fynboh, Mike Cleary, Gaylin Croonquist, Kerby Lund and Adrian Ledermann present. The meeting was called to order by Fynboh at 7:00 p.m. The pledge of allegiance was recited.


Clerks Report: The minutes of the June 15th meeting were addressed. The reading of the minutes were waved and approved on a motion by Croonquist seconded by Lund, and carried.


Treasurer’s Report: Beginning balance on 06/1/2015 was $35,428.67. Receipts were $88,848.55. Orders issued were $26,860.25 leaving a balance of $97,416.97. Investments reported included Tar & Road Fund received $3.39 and $125.00 in interest, to now total $237,798.33 which includes two CDs. On a motion by Lund, seconded by Croonquist, and carried, the treasurer was directed to move $50,00.00 from the money market account to a 5year CD. The treasurer's report was then approved on a motion by Lund, seconded by Croonquist, and approved.


Public Comment: One visitor was present.


Agenda Approval: The agenda was approved on a motion by Fynboh, seconded by Croonquist, and carried.


Old Business:

a. Road report: Grading gravel roads continues as needs surface. Some concerns were raised including soft spots and wash boarding on Wolf Creek Road, brush from storm on roads, trees on Moon Lake Hts, and wash out on Whiskey Lake Dr. Clerk was directed to send a letter to resident on Moon Lake Hts regarding the trees. Board will consider putting chloride on Wolf Creed Rd in 2016 and removing soft spot frost boils. Road ditch mowing has been completed, and a midsummer mowing will be undertaken to control weeds and high grasses this year. Road right of ways will not be sprayed this year as there is difficulty in finding a contractor to do the work.

b. Chloride application has been completed; billing has been completed and reimbursements are being received.

c. Sara Road Paving: Board is considering options on the feasibility study, info from engineer J.K. Stabnow and notes about east end spur on Sara Rd prior to a decision by end of this year.


New Business:

a. Building permits: five permits were reviewed.

b. Big Chip-Hedeen Rd paving petitions were reviewed. 35 signatures have been received. Clerk will certify signatures.

c. Edgefield Cemetery Tree Trimming: Trimming is needed; will be put on the agenda for 2016 completion.

d. Ditch benefits hearing is on Aug 6 at Douglas County Public Works with info about Brandon Township assessments for the next 5 years.

e. Clerk notes included July 14th planning commission report, and District 9 MAT meeting on August 17 at Cormorant Town Hall.


Claims and Wages: Claims included: Amundson Equipment-$31.44 for disk mower blades; The Record-$17.32 for public notice; Gardonville-$14.95 for internet service; Peterson Lawn Service-$390.00 for Edgefield Cemetery mowing; Klimek's Tree Service-$1,125.00 for tree removal; West Central MN Petroleum-$1,182.72 for diesel fuel; Otter Tail Power-$24.99 for shop electricity; Post Office-$98.00 for stamps; City of Brandon-$59.55 for water/sewer; Bitzan Backhoe Service-$1,725.00 for culvert replacements; and Okerlund Graveling-$2,772.00 for gravel. Wages for grading, mowing, and tree removal totaled $1,937.50. Claims and wages were approved on a motion by Croonquist, seconded by Lund and carried with aye votes from Croonquist, Lund, and Fynboh.


Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 8:40 pm on a motion by Fynboh, seconded by Croonquist, and carried..
