Brandon Township Meeting Minutes

July 21, 2014


The July monthly meeting was held on July 21, 2014 at the Brandon Community Center with Paul Lauthen, Mike Cleary, Gaylin Croonquist, and Adrian Ledermann present. The meeting was called to order by Lauthen at 7:00 p.m. The pledge of allegiance was recited.


Clerks Report: The minutes of the June 16th, meeting were addressed. The reading of the minutes were waved and then approved on a motion by Croonquist, seconded by Lauthen, and carried.


Treasurer’s Report: Beginning balance on 06/01/2014 was $37,975.71. Receipts were $124,399.64 less deposit in transit ($124,385.15). Orders issued were $14,950.86, for a total ending balance of $23,039.34. Investments reported included Tar & Road Fund received $4.22 in interest, to now total $197,632.73 which includes two CDs. The treasurer's report was then approved on a motion by Croonquist, seconded by Lauthen and approved.


Public Comment: No visitors were present


Agenda Approval: The agenda was approved on a motion by Lauthen, seconded by Croonquist and carried.


Old Business:

a. Road report: Graveling has been completed for now. Mowing of the first cut has been completed. One weed inspection along Aldrich Rd indicated need for control; Ledermann will contact land owner. Tanglewood right of way repair will be undertaken in fall after crops are off. Lauthen will contact Blackie and Nelson. Tree removal on Walleye Rd has been completed; Cleary will contact Klimek's Tree service about tree trimming needed on Wallen Rd, Strom Drive, and Shorewood Ln. Tigen road damage by Xcel will be assessed when Xcel has moved out of the area. Ledermann will contact Riley Bros Paving about road repair on Chippewa Hts Rd.

b. MAT summer course at Fergus Falls was attended by Fynboh, Cleary, and Ledermann. Lots of good information about CTAS, data practices act, and right of way weed and brush control. Fynboh attended the required Board of Appeal training.

c. MAT membership cards were distributed.

d. Chloride billing has been completed; checks are coming in. Ledermann has received three calls questioning the thoroughness of the spread, and three complimentary calls about a great spread this year.

e. Croonquist reported that the Grader repair has been completed.


New Business:

a. Election Judge training has been completed by Diane Smith-head judge; Adrian Ledermann-clerk; Jane Croonquist; Marcia Bolin; Patti Bracey; Janelle Eddy; Julianna Pomeranz; and Bob Jacobson. All were appointed for the 2014 election cycle on a motion by Croonquist, seconded by Lauthen and carried.

b. Supervisor filing dates were announced and publicized. The filing period is July 29 to August 12 with the clerk's office open on August 12 from 1-5 pm.

c. Two building permits were reviewed.

d. Hegg attorney letter about Swart property lines was reviewed. Brandon Township has no concerns about that property line.

e. Clerk notes: Klimek liability certificate has been received. LTAP bulletin was shared; District 9 MAT meeting notice was shared.


Claims and Wages: Claims included: Gardonville-$14.95 for internet service; Bremer Bank-$54,963.29 for loan repayment; Okerlund Graveling-$12,601.50 for gravel; MN Revenue-$100.00 for withholding tax; IRS-$909.24 for 2nd Qt taxes; PERA-$242.20 for 2nd Qt.; Klimek's Tree Service-$75.00 for tree removal; Otter Tail Power-$27.92 for shop electricity; City of Brandon-$59.05 for water/sewer; Douglas County Public Works-$13,893.20 for chloride; Paul Lauthen-$625.00 for tractor rental for mowing. Wages for mowing and grading totaled $1,550.00. Claims and wages were approved on a motion by Croonquist, seconded by Lauthen, and carried with aye votes from Croonquist and Lauthen.



The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 pm on a motion by Lauthen; seconded Croonquist.
