Brandon Township Meeting Minutes

May 19, 2014

 

The May monthly meeting was held on May 19, 2014 at the Brandon Community Center with Paul Lauthen, Mike Cleary, Gaylin Croonquist, Gene Fynboh and Adrian Ledermann present. The meeting was called to order by Fynboh at 7:00 p.m. The pledge of allegiance was recited.

 

Clerks Report: The minutes of the April 21st meeting were addressed. The reading of the minutes were waved and approved on a motion by Lauthen, seconded by Croonquist, and carried.

 

Treasurer’s Report: Beginning balance on 04/01/2014 was $55,084.62. Receipts were $2,370.50 Orders issued were $6,169.44, for a total ending balance of $51,285.68. Investments reported included Tar & Road Fund received $4.48 in interest, to now total $197,623.59. The treasurer reported that he had met with an investment adviser on possible locations other than a money market account for the Tar and Road Fund. He will check out investing some of that account ($100,000.00 ?) in a CD. On a motion by Lauthen, seconded by Lauthen, and carried, the treasurer’s report was approved.

 

Public Comment: No visitors were present

 

Agenda Approval: The agenda was approved as presented on a motion by Croonquist, seconded by Lauthen and carried.

 

Old Business:

a. Road report: Roads are being graveled and graded. Some added gravel locations were forwarded to Okerlund Graveling. The signs ordered were received and one on Edgefield road as been installed. Clerk is to order another small double arrow sign for a T in a road. Culvert on Hagedorn Road is plugged. Croonquist will check on getting it cleaned out.

b. Letter about grader tire purchase was read along with clerk's letter in response.

c. Edgefield Cemetery mowing contract was signed.

d. Gene Fynboh, Mike Cleary and Adrian Ledermann will sign up for the MAT summer short course in June at Fergus Falls. Fynboh for board of appeal training; Cleary and Ledermann for the new CTAS program training.

 

New Business:

a. Election preparation info, including training dates, potential election judges and new regulations was shared by the clerk. On a motion by Lauthen, seconded by Croonquist, and carried, Diane Smith was appointed head election Judge in Brandon Township for August primary and November general elections.

b. MATIT insurance contract was approved on a motion by Fynboh, seconded by Croonquist and carried.

c. Chloride locations for 2014 were reviewed; Lauthen, Fynboh and Ledermann will be available to assist drivers.

d. Two building permits were reviewed.

e. Clerk notes: Hilltop culvert prices; Brandon Evansville Summer Rec program request for donations; City of Brandon Wellhead protection info; and Okerlund liability certificate were all reviewed.

 

Claims and Wages: Claims included: Douglas County Assessor-$7,228.25 for 997 parcels; Luckys Propane-$697.50 for propane; Douglas County Public Works-$46.52 for sand; MATIT-$2,038.00 for commercial-consolidated coverage; M-R Sign Co-$139.38 for signs; Ottertail Power-$22.60 for shop electricity; City of Brandon-$59.05 for water/sewer; Minnesota Association of Townships-$150.00 for Summer Short Course registration; West Central MN Petroleum-$1,779.75 for diesel. Wages totaled $1,250 for road grading. Claims and wages were approved on a motion by Croonquist seconded by Lauthen, and carried.

 

Adjournment:

The meeting adjourned on a motion by Croonquist; seconded by Fynboh and carried at 8:20 pm.
