Brandon Township Meeting Minutes

July 16, 2012

The July monthly meeting was held on July 16, 2012 at the Brandon Community Center with Michael Cleary, Gene Fynboh, Paul Lauthen and Adrian Ledermann present. The meeting was called to order by Cleary at 7:00 p.m. The pledge of allegiance was recited.

Clerks Report: The minutes of the June 18, 2012, meeting were addressed. The reading of the minutes were waved and then approved on a motion by Fynboh, seconded by Lauthen, and carried.

Treasurer’s Report: (by clerk Ledermann with treasurer Smith unable to attend) Beginning balance on 06/01/2012 was $5,663.12. Interest from Revenue on account at Bremer was $.13. Other income was $93,431.00 ($3,431.00 from Brandon residents for chloride and $90,000.00 transferred in from MM. Orders issued were $84,995.70 for a total ending balance of $14,098.55. Investments reported included Tar & Road Fund received $6.49 in interest, $90,000.00 transferred out to checking, to now total $107,502.67. Brandon Township received $120,448.16 from tax settlement on July 3, 2012 and Smith has transferred $90,000.00 back to MM. Motion made by Lauthen, seconded by Cleary, and carried, to approve report.

Public Comment: Four visitors were present to address issues on the agenda.

Agenda Approval: The agenda was adjusted to have all items of interest to the visitors addressed first, then approved with additional items, on a motion by Cleary, seconded by Fynboh, and approved.

Old Business:

a. Burros road petition has been postponed for now.

b. Road report: Work has been done on Burros Dr. but more gravel is needed and the gravel placed needs to be leveled out. Okerlund and Croonquist will be called. Tree on Tanglewood and in Edgefield cemetery have been removed by Klimeks.

c. Sign post replacement and removal. On a motion by Lauthen, seconded by Cleary, the minutes from the special work meeting were approved. Supervisors are planning to begin pulling the signs and replacing the posts where needed. Cleary will order #3 posts. (After the meeting Ledermann received a petition from Chippewa Hts Rd to keep additional speed limit signs; Cleary received info that #4 posts can not be attached to #3 stub posts.) .

d. Ledermann reported on election judges training. Marcia Bolin, Gaylin and Jane Croonquist, Janelle Eddy, Gene Fynboh, Paul Lauthen, Adrian Ledermann, Kathleen Mohagen, Julianna Pomeranz, and Diane Smith attended training. On a motion by Cleary, seconded by Fynboh, all were appointed as Brandon Township election judges. Smith and Ledermann will schedule.

New Business:

a. Three new land permits were reviewed.

b. Primary election is August 14 from 7 am to 8 pm. Brandon Township and Brandon City will coordinate pretest of machines on August 9.

c. Township Election notices will be published this week. The filing period for 2 four year term supervisors and 1 four year term treasurer to be elected in November will be from July 31 until August 14. Contact clerk Adrian Ledermann at 834 4418 or for information. The ballot question on whether to appoint the clerk and treasurer will also be on the ballot.

c. New mower. Lauthen presented several options for purchasing a new mower for mowing township ditches. On a motion by Fynboh, seconded by Cleary, and approved, a new John Deer rotary mower will be purchased from Amundson Equipment for $10,100.00.

d. Cleary will check with the city clerk on the water sewer bill as the shop no longer uses any sewer connection.

e. Clerk notes: A tax reform town hall meeting will be held in Alexandria at the city hall on Friday, July 20, 2 pm for all interested local government people and residents.

Claims and Wages: Claims and wages requests were presented and viewed by the board. Claims included: Brett Jansen-$3.50 for gopher feet; The Record-$4.50 for public notices; Klimek's Tree Service-$110.00 for tree removal; City of Brandon; $148.65 for water/sewer; Bobs Adium-$142.01 for mower fuel; West Central MN Petroleum-$1,748.45 for diesel fuel; Otter Tail Power-$30.19 for shop electricity; IRS-$550.65 for 2nd qt.; PERA-$220.26 for 2nd qt.; Okerlund Graveling-$1,620.00 for gravel. On a motion by Cleary, seconded by Fynboh, and carried the bills were approved to be paid.
