Brandon Township Meeting Minutes –March 17, 2008 

The regular monthly meeting of the Brandon Township Board was held on Monday, March 17, 2008 at the Brandon Community Center with Don Buse, Paul Lauthen, Michael Cleary, Diane Smith and Adrian Ledermann present.

 

The meeting was called to order by the Don Buse at 8 p.m.  The pledge of allegiance was recited.

 

The oaths of office for Michael Cleary and Adrian Ledermann were administered.   On a motion by Paul Lauthen, seconded by Michael Cleary, Don Buse was elected chair.

 

Clerks Report:  The minutes of the February meeting were addressed.   The minutes were approved as read with a motion by Lauthen, seconded by Cleary, and carried.

 

Treasurer’s Report:  Beginning balance as of 2/1/08 was $16,176.22.   Interest from Revenue on account at Bremer was $2.80.  Other income was $1,124.30.  Orders issued totaling $922.07, for a total ending balance of $16,381.25.  Investments reported included Tar & Road Fund received $138.87 in interest to total $61,610.09; 12 month CD renewed for one year totals $54,108.63; and 18 month CD renewed for one year totals $162,755.05.  Motion made by Cleary, seconded by Lauthen, to approve report; carried.

 Public Comment: No visitors were present Old Business:

a.  Sewer update.  Buse reported little further info since annual meeting.   An open meeting is planned for May 17 for all in the central district.  Cleary shared further info on the added parcels proposed.  No further action taken, but Brandon board will need to pass along resolutions to the central board in the very near future.

 

b. Chloride billing assessments discussed; Ledermann will consult with various township road persons who have done common collection.  No further action taken.

 

c.  Info shared on annual county township meeting-March 19; spring short course-March 27; and Board of Review meeting on April 8.

 New Business:

a.  Gravel quotes notice has been sent to The Record.   Road review date set for April 8, 8 a.m.    Cleary suggested making turn around on Walleye Road; he will contact landowner at end of road; board will examine possibilities during road review.

 

b.  Road maintenance info - resources for asphalt, etc. shared.

 

c.  Grading contracts.   Croonquist will be hired to grade roads on a motion by Lauthen, seconded by Cleary, carried.  Ledermann will draw up contract.

 

d.  12 month CD will be renewed by Smith after negotiating best deal, on a motion by Lauthen, seconded by Cleary, carried.

 

e.  Financial packages were set as follows on a motion by Lauthen, seconded by Cleary, carried.  Mileage-.50 per mile; per diems- $50.00; hourly wage- $13.00; hired wages $17.00; election judge wages- $13.50 for head judge and $12.00 for other judges.   Ledermann will check with other townships regarding clerk and treasurer monthly salaries.

 

Claims:  Claims were presented and viewed by the board.  Claims included: Minnesota Benefit Association-$405.00 for officer group life; Glenn's Towing- $740.82 for towing and truck repair; John Peterson-150.50 for plowing and truck repair; Melrose Motor Co.-$90.74 for Truck parts; Ottertail Power- $60.63 for shop electricity; West Central Petroleum- $644.00 for diesel; City of Bradon-$127.65 for utilities; H & R Tire-$333.96 for truck parts; The Record-$20.19 for notices;  Claims and wages were ordered to be paid with a motion by Lauthen, seconded by Cleary, and carried.
